Working with AUSPAN has been a seamless experience from start to finish. Their technical support, quick communication, and attention to detail made the entire process effortless. The build quality is exceptional, and the partnership between AUSPAN and Red Rust Construction worked brilliantly. This new shed gives us flexibility we’ve never had before — it’s a real game changer for how we manage and store our products.
Dan Raymond
The overall experience with AUSPAN has been terrific — everything went to plan from start to finish. The design works perfectly for our road trains, and the quality of the build is outstanding. Their professionalism and unique roof-lift system really set them apart. I couldn’t be happier and would 100% recommend AUSPAN.
Tim Sullivan
AUSPAN made the whole process really easy for us. They were quick to respond, gave us clear cost estimates whenever we looked at changes, and guided us through what would work best. We ended up with a four-court stadium the kids absolutely love — and we’re now the envy of other associations.

At AUSPAN, we’re proud to have delivered another successful project for Direct Freight Express. From feasibility to final handover, the collaboration between our team and theirs was seamless. This facility in Kenwick reflects our shared commitment to practical design, build quality, and long-term performance.

This project really showcases what’s possible when modern dairy technology meets local shed-building expertise. From early planning through to completion, we focused on creating a structure that not only fit Mark’s operational needs but also future-proofed his investment.
With a 50-metre lean-to for added functionality and 38 metres of ridge ventilation, the end result is a purpose-built, high-performance dairy shed—strong, efficient, and designed to last.
Isaac Smith
The overall experience was easy, really. Once we’d determined the size and design, the process was seamless, and I was kept informed the whole way through. The quality of the materials is outstanding — it’s a substantial structure that’s built to last. Every time I drive past, I feel proud knowing it’s something that’ll stand strong for years.
Mark Conley

Frequently asked questions
This is a very open question as we are a design and construct company, so no two sheds are the same; however, AUSPAN farm sheds typically fall within the following ranges (all indicative and subject to design, location and specification):
- Machinery & Hay Sheds: Range from $100,000 +GST to $250,000 +GST
- Workshops: Range from $150,000 +GST to $600,000 +GST
- Storage sheds Grain/Fertiliser Sheds: Range from $150,000 +GST to $400,000 +GST
Example: A 24m × 40m enclosed Workshop shed with a 150mm slab, Sliding doors, P/A Doors and Skylights for a grower in Wagin cost approximately $400,000 +GST.
Yes. Most WA local governments require a Building Permit, and many also require Planning Approval depending on zoning, size and use. AUSPAN provides certified structural engineering, site plans, elevations and stormwater details to support your applications and help streamline approvals.
Example: In Dowerin, the shire required bushfire zoning checks; AUSPAN’s documentation helped avoid weeks of delay by clearly addressing the planning conditions.
Choosing the right size depends on your current machinery fleet, workflow and future plans.
Typical AUSPAN benchmark sizes include:
- 15–30m span for machinery sheds
- 5–7m wall height (6.5m is very common for modern equipment)
- Length is determined by our standard 8m bays so anything from 24m and up depending on the number and size of machines.
Example: A Moora grower expanded to a 24m × 64m shed after expanding their operation, needing more undercover space to store the extra machinery.
AUSPAN’s hot-dip galvanised portal frame sheds are designed for longevity, with structural steel for a minimum of 50 years with appropriate maintenance. Roof and wall sheeting (Colorbond® or Zincalume®) typically lasts 40 years depending on location and environment (for example coastal vs inland).
Concrete slab: Recommended for workshops, machinery storage and grain sheds where a hard, cleanable surface is required.
Compacted Gravel: Common for open hay sheds or machinery sheds where the shed is purely for storage and not a working area, and cost is a priority.
Concrete apron: Often added outside the main doors to provide a cleaner, safer transition area for machinery.
125mm-150mm reinforced concrete is common for machinery storage and general workshop use.
150mm reinforced concrete is recommended for very heavy axle loads such as large headers and air seeders, particularly where loaders will push into grain or fertiliser.
Most AUSPAN farm sheds in WA use roof pitches between 7.5° and 3°.
- 7.5° is standard for anything up to 21m span, 5° for anything between 22m and 26m span and 3° is standard for anything larger than 26m span. This applies to all AUSPAN sheds, but we can provide custom roof pitches upon request.
- Higher pitches (up to 20°) are sometimes chosen where additional airflow or heat reduction is desired, such as in shearing sheds or feedlot covers.
AUSPAN typically uses:
- Zincalume® for cost-effective performance where colour is less critical and heat is reflected.
- Colorbond® steel for premium appearance and long-term corrosion resistance.
- Colorbond® Ultra for appearance and highly corrosive environments, i.e., coastal.
Hot-dip galvanised structural steel frames are used to maximise durability and minimise corrosion risk, particularly important in fertiliser and coastal environments.
Routine maintenance helps maximise the life of your AUSPAN shed:
- Inspect gutters and downpipes annually and clear debris.
- Check fasteners, bracing and door tracks for wear or loosening.
- Touch up scratched or damaged painted surfaces.
- Wash down cladding more regularly in coastal, fertiliser or corrosive environments.
AUSPAN designs sheds to comply with AS/NZS 1170 wind regions and local terrain categories.
In Western Australia, this typically includes:
- Region A: Inland areas (many Wheatbelt locations).
- Region B/C/D: Northern Coastal and peri-coastal regions.
Example: AUSPAN’s sheds in Onslow (Region C) incorporate upgraded fixings, bracing and cladding thickness to meet higher cyclonic design requirements.
