Located 540 km northwest of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, Newmont’s Tanami Gold Mine is an underground mining operation.
Zenith is responsible for operating two power stations on site: the Dead Bullock Soak (DBS) Power Station and the Granites Power Station (GTS).
These two facilities, situated 42 km apart, are interconnected via a 66kV overhead transmission line.
Together, the power stations provide a combined capacity of 101.5 MW, with operations commencing in 2018.
In 2020, Zenith initiated the “T2 Expansion” project at Tanami, aimed at enhancing energy reliability and sustainability. This upgrade includes the integration of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and the installation of additional gas-fired generation units.
Features:
The BESS will support cyclic load demands by operating in parallel with the existing gas power infrastructure, delivering enhanced efficiency and contributing to a reduced carbon footprint.
